OXNARD, Calif. — Quarterback Dak Prescott said Thursday he feels confident he and the Dallas Cowboys will agree to terms on a contract that keeps him with the team beyond this season.
But Prescott didn’t offer many specific details about negotiations during a news conference after Thursday’s practice.
Prescott, the face of Dallas’ offense who finished second in MVP voting in 2023, is entering the final season of his four-year, $160 contract. He said he allows his representatives to negotiate for a new deal while his focus remains on preparing for the season with his teammates.
“Good conversations are going on, I will say that — you can call it negotiations or whatever,” said Prescott, 31, who’s been with the Cowboys since he entered the NFL in 2016. “I’ve said anytime, I feel like, I’ve talked about: I have a lot of confidence in my guys and these guys getting something done.”
With wide receiver CeeDee Lamb holding out in hopes of signing a new contract and star pass rusher Micah Parsons soon due for a lucrative deal, the Cowboys face a challenging financial puzzle. But the team has been steadfast in saying it plans to keep Prescott in Dallas.
Thursday, when a media member asked Prescott if he’d grown more hopeful about signing a new deal over the past several weeks, the quarterback thought for a second before responding.
“I’m not too much of a ‘hoping’ guy. … If it happens it happens,” Prescott said. “I’m happy where I am right now, and that’s where my focus is. I enjoy being a Cowboys a thousand percent. I enjoy living in Dallas, enjoying everything about it. But this is a business.
“Conversations are going well, but I’m thankful to be where I am right now. And that’s here. As I said, I have somebody that takes care of that. To answer your question, I’m not putting that much thought into hoping it gets done now, hoping it gets in a couple weeks, during the season, whenever it happens. I just know conversations are going the right way.”
