Lil Wayne is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time by many, and one of his sons feels has now named another rapper who he sees as the second coming of his father.
Flophouse Atlanta recently sat down for a chat with Lil Novi (real name Neal), the son of Tunechi and singer Nivea. When he was asked to name the greatest rapper of all time, he had an interesting answer ready.
“I mean, obviously my dad. But for me, I would say [Playboi] Carti is Dwayne now. So yeah, Carti. If you really think, he’s there. He’s reached that level. He’s done crazy numbers.”
Lil Novi is actually following in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a career in music, but fans are divided by the results so far.
In March, the 14-year-old went live on Instagram to share a snippet of a new song while throwing up hand sings and dancing to it.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti and Yeat, the track features distorted high-pitched vocals over a bass-heavy, video game-esque beat.
The full lyrics are hard to make out, but Neal can be heard making references to drug use and sex.
Soon after the clip began making the rounds online, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on it, and some were less than impressed.
“Bro didn’t get the right genes,” one critic wrote on Instagram, while another added: “How is your dad one of the best rappers alive and you do this.”
Others, however, showed more leniency to the teen with comments like “He gonna drop a banger in 10 years probably” and “Nah this better than Ken [Carson] its actually tuff.”
Neal was born in November 2009 during Lil Wayne’s on-again, off-again relationship with Nivea.
The pair were engaged in the early 2000s and had their only child together after rekindling their relationship years later, but finally called it quits in 2010.
The Young Money boss has three other children with different women: Reginae, 25; Dwayne Carter III, 15; and Kameron, 14.
