American Idol aired on Easter Sunday with a special episode featuring songs of faith and inspiration. Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Ritchie, and Luke Bryan were joined by artist in residence Jelly Roll, Cece Winans, and Brandon Lake for the broadcast. There were many moving moments, but country music fans were brought to tears when Luke took the stage.
The country star sang “Jesus Bout My Kids” from his 2024 album Mind of a Country Boy. He performed the song from a stool on the Idol stage as photos of his children appeared on the screen behind him. The lyrics share the powerful message: “I used to talk to my kids about Jesus/Pray they’d find Him sooner than I did/I used to talk to my kids about Jesus/Now I talk to Jesus ’bout my kids.”
Luke and his wife, Carolyn, share two sons, 17-year-old Bo and 14-year-old Tate. Luke’s sister, Kelly Bryan Cheshire, died in 2007, and her husband, Ben Cheshire, died seven years later. They were survived by three children, Jordan, Kris, and Tilden, and Luke and Carolyn adopted them after the death of their parents.
Luke shared a clip from the performance on Instagram, and fans were moved to leave comments:
