Ralph Lauren is the kind of designer that make us want to discard everything we own and adopt the opulent Western-chic aesthetic of his die-hard fans—and his latest runway show was no exception.
On April 17, Lauren showcased his fall collection at a gallery space in downtown New York, featuring a star-studded front row that included Ariana DeBose, Michelle Williams, Naomi Watts, and the Princess of Genovia herself, Anne Hathaway. “The Princess Diaries” star (Anyone else excited for part three?), stepped out in an ultra rich-looking outfit featuring daring denim pants that are sure to cause a bit of discourse.

Hathway showed up looking radiant in a dramatically oversized camel-colored coat that reached her calves, worn over a crisp, white tank top. She accessorized with gold jewelry and Gianvito Rossi metallic stilettos. As for pants, she reached for a tan pair covered in sequins and distressed throughout. And I know what some of you may be thinking—ripped jeans at a fashion show? However, if you ask me, there’s no better way to balance a rich-looking ensemble than to add something a bit edgy.

Now, I’m not saying you have to wear ripped jeans with sequins like Hathaway, but I do think having a pair of distressed jeans in your wardrobe is a must. There’s something so effortless about their lived-in look that automatically levels up even the simplest of outfits.
For spring, I’m especially obsessed with lighter washes and faded options, like these Levi’s. Whether you wear the distressed denim with nothing but a T-shirt or a going-out top, you’ll have the perfect combination of looking put together but not too on the mark. The lowkey nature of ripped jeans can also be modified by footwear. Opt for a relaxed look with a pair of sneakers or go rebellious with combat boots. If you want to get more dressed up, a pair of sassy stilettos will certainly do the trick.
