Why is Simone Biles coming to Athens for Georgia gymnastics?
Biles will be in attendance for the Georgia-Boise State gymnastics meet on Friday for two reasons. One, because the GymDogs are recognizing it as Olympics and alumni night. Two, because Georgia’s new co-head coach, Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, is her personal coach of eight years.
Canqueteau-Landi accepted the co-head coaching position alongside two-year Georgia assistant coach Ryan Roberts following the firing of Courtney Kupets Carter in April 2024.
How does Simone Biles know Georgia coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi?
The pair have worked together since 2017, when Canqueteau-Landi and her husband Laurent Landi, who also coaches Biles, joined the coaching staff at World Champions Elite Centre. The complex in Spring, Texas, is owned by Biles’ parents, Ron and Nellie Biles, and is home to other top athletes like Jordan Chiles.
Biles and Canqueteau-Landi were in Paris together in summer 2024, where Biles earned three gold medals in the team competition, all-around and on vault, and a silver medal on floor.
