Kevin Hart‘s ex-wife Torrei Hart says that her former spouse is on decent terms with fellow comedian Katt Williams, despite their recent war of words.
Torrei chat with TMZ Tuesday after departing the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, where she was asked about a potential feud between the two comedians.
‘I mean Kevin loves everybody, right? So there’s no beef,’ she told the outlet.
Asked if Katt Williams put her on tour in an effort to rankle Kevin Hart, Torrei pointed to her two-decade association with Williams as evidence to their strong professional relationship.
‘Why would he do that?’ said Torrei, who was wed to Kevin from 2003-2011. ‘We’re so close to the point that Katt has babysit my dog.
She continued: ‘I had a Pitbull and Katt babysit my Pitbull, we go way back to the point where I’m telling you, we have history.’
Asked about Kevin, Torrei said, ‘He’s my baby daddy;’ in response to whether she would go on tour with Kevin, Torrei said, ‘Of course, why wouldn’t I?’
She said in a situation like that, it would fall on Kevin to make the necessary arrangements: ‘He needs to do that, he needs to set that up.’
Last week, Williams attacked Hart over his rise to fame in comedy – calling him a ‘plant’ from the studios – while appearing as a guest on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay.
Williams said of Hart: ‘He already had his deals when he got here! Have we heard of a comedian that came to LA, and, in his first year in LA, he had his own sitcom on network television, and had his own movie called Soul Plane that he was leading?
‘No, we’ve never heard of that before that person or since that person. What do you think a plant is? Maybe people don’t understand the definition of these words.’
Williams said he was not fearing of any professional repercussions from his words against Hart.
‘Satan can’t create anything,’ he said. ‘That includes blessings for his people. That’s why, you know what the number one job of somebody that sold their soul in Hollywood is? Is to act like it didn’t happen.’
Kevin spoke in further detail about the controversy in the wake of the podcast in an interview with FOX 5 on Wednesday.
‘I don’t feed into the stuff at all, at the end of the day,’ he said. It’s all entertaining to a certain degree. I just don’t have the time for it. There’s too much going on.’
He added of Williams brazen allegations toward him: ‘You don’t entertain the circus – you watch it.
‘When a lion comes out and rides the bike, you don’t think about it too hard. You just go “Okay, that’s crazy. The lion is riding a bike.” And then you go home and enjoy the rest of your day.’
On Friday evening, Kevin fired back at Williams as the NBA Unplugged star spouted ‘facts’ about the New York Knicks and his fellow comedian during their game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
‘Another fun fact about the New York Knicks, I don’t know if you guys know this, but Katt Williams bought the Knicks,’ Hart said during the game on Friday. ‘And it’s rumored that he took the Knicks back, returned them with a receipt.
‘He’s the first person to ever do that – he bought them for 15 days and returned them.’
NBA Unplugged is an alternate broadcast for the league’s games on one of ESPN’s networks, similar to Peyton and Eli Manning’s arrangement for Monday Night Football.
