Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds chimes in on the movie’s Taylor Swift casting rumors ahead of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie’s release. While the MCU timeline has been quiet when it comes to the movies throughout 2024, Marvel Studios’ solo film outing is only days away, as Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive this week. Reynolds will not only join the MCU on a full-time basis, but the Wade Wilson star will also be reunited with Hugh Jackman as he returns in the role of Wolverine.
In a new interview with E!News, Reynolds was once again asked about the rumors of Swift being part of the Deadpool & Wolverine cast. While Marvel Studios already confirmed Swift won’t be in the upcoming release, Reynolds reiterated this is the case, stating the following about the iconic pop star:
I will say once and for all that the cameo thing with Taylor because she’s our friend—that is not in this film. I always do say that if anyone ever were to take over the role of Deadpool, actually Taylor would be very good. Because that’s a superpower that I don’t know that she shows everyone too often: She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.
1Could Taylor Swift Join The MCU In The Future?
While Swift may not be part of Deadpool & Wolverine, that doesn’t mean she couldn’t join the MCU down the line. Even though many were convinced that she would show up in Deadpool & Wolverine as Marvel’s Lady Deadpool, recent trailers have the MCU audience now theorizing that the character might be played by successful actor and Reynolds’ real-life wife, Blake Lively. While time will tell who is actually going to be Lady Deadpool, having Swift show up in the MCU in the future could allow her to finally tackle another popular fan casting idea.
As Marvel Studios is developing the MCU’s X-Men reboot, if Swift’s MCU debut is saved until that film, that could be the proper time for her to finally play Marvel’s Dazzler. Not only would the terrific casting idea finally be able to come to life, but it could still leave the door open for Swift to meet Reynolds’ Deadpool down the line. In fact, Dazzler showing up in the X-Men movie is perhaps more suitable than Deadpool & Wolverine, since it would potentially also allow for a more direct nod towards Taylor Swift’s musical career via her role.
Despite Swift being confirmed to not appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, there is still a lot to look forward to with Reynolds’ trilogy finale. The character moving over to the MCU will open the door for Wade to meet an endless number of Marvel heroes and villains in upcoming projects. With Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters this Friday, the MCU may never be the same after the Merc with a Mouth enters the franchise.
