The sequel begins with Arlo thriving in his home valley alongside his family. However, after discovering a mysterious artifact buried near the river—a carved stone bearing his family crest—Arlo becomes curious about his ancestors. Encouraged by his father’s memory and the support of his mother and siblings, Arlo embarks on a journey to uncover the truth about his family’s past.
Joined by his best friend Spot, Arlo’s quest takes him across dangerous terrains, including icy tundras, dense jungles, and volcanic plains. Along the way, they meet new dinosaur species, including a wise and enigmatic Ankylosaurus named Terra, who becomes a mentor figure, and a mischievous Velociraptor who tests Arlo’s courage.
As Arlo delves deeper, he uncovers a forgotten tale about his great-grandfather, a legendary leader who united various dinosaur herds during a time of great peril. Arlo’s discovery inspires him to carry on his family’s legacy by helping a displaced herd find a new home.The film’s climax features a perilous crossing of a treacherous volcanic field, where Arlo must confront his deepest fears and prove his bravery. The Good Dinosaur 2 ends with Arlo returning home, wiser and more confident, as he embraces his role in preserving his family’s legacy.
