It’s a new year, and Simone Biles is already making waves in the gymnastics world. But this time Biles didn’t make the splash alone, as one of the Olympian’s biggest rivals, Rebeca Andrade, shared the stage with her. However, while the two gymnastics icons stole the limelight, the 27-year-old’s husband was there to support his wife as always.
Jonathan Owens has been on a break ever since the Chicago Bears failed to qualify for the NFL playoffs. However, the couple is utilizing their time together to the fullest, as Owens hasn’t left Bile’s side since the new year. It seems the Olympic gold medalist couldn’t be happier with her biggest cheerleader ready to back her up, as she shared a behind-the-scenes selfie on Instagram.
“Bring bae to work. @jowens,” Simone Biles wrote in the caption of her Instagram story from the Vtex Connect in New York. The selfie captured the NFL star in a dashing gray suit and a black turtleneck. Biles color-coordinated with her husband, even wearing a similar black turtleneck and silver chain. However, this wasn’t the only snippet the gymnast shared with her husband.
While Biles and Rebeca Andrade were the guests of honor at the Vtex Connect event, the trip acted as a mini vacation for the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Owens shared multiple glimpses from the trip in their stories, with the seven-time Olympic gold medalist revealing that their visit was mostly a relaxing one. “Ended the trip with some wellness treatment,” read one caption.
The gymnastics GOAT and her NFL star husband stayed apart for most of 2024. While preparing for and competing in the Olympics, followed by the Gold Over America Tour, kept Biles busy, the NFL regular season kept Owens in Chicago most of the time. While Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens still found time to meet, those barely lasted beyond a dinner date.
So Biles and her husband seemed inseparable in New York. However, the highlight of the couple’s night was the NFL star calling a cab. Why would calling a cab be the highlight of such an eventful night? Well, Jonathan Owens had the answer. While Simone Biles had posted the story with the caption “TAXIII…” in all caps, Owens shared it with the surprising caption.
“First time for everything,” revealed the Bears’ safety, indicating that he had never yelled to call a cab before in his life. However, visiting New York wasn’t a fun time just for Mr. and Mrs. Owens, but also for the Brazilian gymnastics star.
Rebeca Andrade fulfilled her New York dream and earned Simone Biles’ praise. The Brazilian Olympic gold medalist also did a lot more in New York than simply speaking on the Vtex Connect stage. Rebeca Andrade revealed that coming to New York and dancing in Times Square was one of her goals. The 25-year-old uploaded a snippet of herself checking on things off her bucket list as the gymnast danced to DJ Kitta’s ‘All I Want’ on Instagram.
“I learned this one just to do it here. I’m so happy to be able to fulfill this dream of mine and it’s so incredible that it doesn’t even seem real!” Rebeca Andrade wrote in the caption. However, this wasn’t the only good thing that happened to the 25-year-old in the city that never sleeps. Simone Biles took the opportunity to once again show the sisterhood between the two competitors.
“I absolutely love and adore Rebeca… The way she paved Brazilian gymnastics, I think is definitely unmatched. I love her, and I love her resilience,” explained the eleven-time Olympic medalist. Yet, the GOAT’s praise didn’t just extend to Rebeca Andrade but also to Brazil. The defending world champion explained how Brazil cheered for her during her Olympic debut and supports her even today.
However, the Vtex Connect was just the beginning for Simone Biles, as the 2025 Biles Invitational is on the horizon. This time, Simone Biles has invited her Gold Over America Tour buddies Casimir Schmidt & Yul Molder as special guests. And as Simone Biles turns her attention to the meeting, there’s little doubt that Jonathan Owens will once again be present to lend a helping hand.
