When Texas singer Breanna Nix auditioned for Season 23 of “American Idol,” she stunned the judging panel with a rendition of Carrie Underwood’s song “Jesus, Take The Wheel.” During Sunday night’s episode of the competition, she went on to receive a standing ovation from the judges after channeling another “Idol” winner: Kelly Clarkson.
After surviving the “Idol arena” portion of Hollywood week, which whittled down the number of contestants from 144 to 62, the remaining singers had to compete in the “showstoppers” round, which tests their ability to stand out from their peers. Nix performed Clarkson’s song “The Trouble With Love Is,” from the Season 1 “Idol” winner’s 2003 album “Thankful.”

Judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood responded enthusiastically, with Bryan saying that the performance gave him “full body chills.”
“She came out, and never let up,” said Richie.
Nix met with her husband and young son, Emerson, immediately afterwards, saying she was on “such a high” from the performance.
“I sing because of my son, I sing because of my family right here,” said Nix, who is a stay-at-home mom. “These are my whole entire world.”
