Colleen Hoover fans who once had Verity on their TBR lists can now officially move it over to their watchlists, but they won’t be able to cross it off for more than a year. The Hollywood Reporter has shared that the feature film adaptation of the author’s psychological thriller book will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026, with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva, and Brady Wagner set to bring the pages of the suspenseful story to the screen in a movie from director Michael Showalter.Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson’s New Psychological Thriller Based on Colleen Hoover Book Gets Release Date
Its new spot on the theatrical release calendar sandwiches it between Marvel Studios’ superhero team-up movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently set to hit the big screen on May 1, 2026, and Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is due for release on May 22, 2026. According to the outlet, Verity’s mid-month placement is a strategic move by Amazon MGM Studios to offer counter-programming to cinemagoing audiences alongside the slightly more male-skewing tentpoles that are coming out next spring.

What We Know About ‘Verity’ So Far
The final script for Verity, which adapts the New York Times bestseller, was written by Antosca after previous iterations by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, and the writing duo of Will Honley and April Maguire. It sounds like the movie will stay pretty close to its source material, as, according to the official logline, the story centers around “struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford under mysterious circumstances, but her assignment takes a dark turn after discovering chilling autobiographical notes,” which leads her to uncovering “a series of deadly family secrets.”
It comes hot on the heels of It Ends With Us, an adaptation of Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, directed by Justin Baldoni, who also stars in the film alongside Blake Lively. Verity, however, looks to be a much more gory affair, exploring themes of perception, self-doubt, and obsession. Photos from the set surfaced earlier this month, showing Johnson covered in blood while Hartnett, who portrays Hathaway’s on-screen husband Jeremy Crawford, guides her across a busy New York City street, which appears to be depicting a scene from the book — but for those that haven’t had a chance to read it yet, we won’t spoil the ending.
