The moment Anne Hathaway puts on a gown and steps onto the red carpet, all our Princess Diaries dreams, Devil Wears Prada goals, and Ella Enchanted fairytales come true.
The actor made this all happen once again on Wednesday, when she made an entrance at the opening ceremony of Bulgari’s Serpenti Infinito exhibition in Shanghai, China, in a dramatic gold Oscar de la Renta gown. The dress had a sculptural strapless neckline that seemed to float over the actor’s chest. The piece was cinched at the waist, while the wavy skirt expanded out behind Hathaway as if a sudden wind had just passed by and caught it by surprise.
Styled by longtime friend and collaborator Erin Walsh, Hathaway wore the gown with gold peep-toe, croc-effect heels by Christian Louboutin—the pop of red on the soles mirrored by Hathaway’s rouge pedicure.
She also, of course, repped Bulgari via a striking gold and silver necklace made to look like intertwining serpents dotted with blue and red jewel drops. To continue the snake theme, she added on silver serpent-head earrings with red rubies as the animals’ eyes.
The actor wore her hair in a regal side-parted updo and had on a subtle red lip. Our Queen of Genovia.
Hathaway posed for photos at the event with fellow actor and Bulgari global ambassador Crystal Liu Yifei, who looked timeless in a black strapless corset gown embroidered with colorful flowers.
The high jeweler’s event ushered in the Year of the Snake (which begins on January 29, 2025, in the lunar calendar). The brand chose January 8 to host the immersive art experience because the number eight is a symbol of infinity, “mirroring the infinite transformations of the powerful snake,” Bulgari said.
