Part 2 of her docuseries, Simone Biles: Rising, allows a glimpse into Biles’ mindset during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Following the athlete’s journey through the tough 2020 Tokyo Olympics — a necessary and reinvigorating mental health break, waves of media backlash, and an empowering 2024 return — the documentary highlights her inspiring resilience, fearless authenticity, and a well-cultivated dedication to her craft. Biles’ name stood out at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as the decorated gymnast took home several medals and broke a few records along the way.

The artistic gymnast and mental health advocate shook the world at this year’s Olympics competition when she made a stellar comeback after withdrawing from most of the 2020 Tokyo events. Biles has also been key in opening up the discussion of physical, mental, and sexual abuse experienced by gymnasts and athletes — all the while maintaining a record-breaking streak of athletic performance. Biles’ 2024 Paris feats echo Biles’ winning history in artistic gymnastics competitions, from her Olympic debut in 2016 Rio to her World Championship victories, making her the most decorated U.S. gymnast in history.

Simone Biles Rising Reveals The Athlete’s Motivation For Her Successful 2024 Paris Return

Not only did Biles demonstrate perseverance and a renewed passion for her sport, but she also showed that a health break can go a long way. In her Olympics return for the 2024 Paris competition, Biles won four medals, three gold and one silver. Additionally, she broke Shannon Miller’s record for most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast. In Tokyo 2020, Biles tied with Miller by receiving 2 Olympic medals, completing 7 in her career. In 2024, she broke that tie, raising her medal count to 11 in total.

After a terrific performance at the Paris Olympics through pain, injuries, and past trauma, the gymnast confessed she couldn’t bear to be called a quitter again. Her mental health exit from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics cost her a leading role in the U.S. artistic team, resulting in the athlete receiving a lot of criticism for thwarting her team’s chances and was repeatedly called a “quitter.” While she was also widely supported by fellow competitors and audiences, Simone Biles Rising Part 2 reveals Biles was deeply affected by the negative backlash, and used it as motivation to reclaim her previous Olympic success.

Simone Biles Got Close To Beating Her 2016 Rio Olympics Medal Count

Biles’ most outstanding victories come from her 2016 Rio debut. At just 19 years old, the artistic gymnast took her U.S. team to the gold in the team final and got three gold medals for herself in the all-around, vault, and floor finals. That year, Biles also received a bronze for the balance beam final, winning a total of five medals in the 2016 Rio Olympics with her four golds  and becoming the first American gymnast to win four gold medals at a single Olympic games.

Recent rumors have left many wondering if Simone Biles will retire after the 2024 Olympics – here’s what the famous gymnast has said about her future

Even though she only participated in the team vault and final beam events in the Tokyo competition, the talented athlete got a medal for each. Alongside her U.S. team, Biles won silver in the team final and bronze in the beam final. The Tokyo Olympics saw Biles experiencing the “twisties,” caused by overwhelming physical and mental pressure in preparation for, and during, the 2020 games, which resulted in her withdrawal from the remaining events.

Simone Biles has had five gymnastic skills named after her throughout her career. Three are called The Biles and refer to floor exercise, vault, and balance beam skills. Two are titled The Biles II and refer to the athlete’s floor exercise and vault skills. Her signature move is The Biles in the floor apparatus.

Biles’ recent performance marked a shockingly strong comeback after her uncharacteristic misses in the 2020 Tokyo events, the 27-year-old gymnast becoming the oldest Olympic all-around winner in 72 years. Notably, Biles’ outstanding participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics as documented in Simone Biles: Rising demonstrates a healthy and admirable recovery that holds much more meaning than the gymnast’s medals.
