Cecile Landi and her husband, Laurant Landi, have been one of the most visible coaches in gymnastics. In fact, they’ve been instrumental in Simone Biles‘ triumphant comeback to the mat. Not only did they give the G.O.A.T. unwavering support, but they also did an incredible job of understanding what the Olympian needed after her harrowing experience at the Tokyo Olympics. This is what led to the 27-year-old’s dreamy stint in Paris.
Cecile Landi is a proud mama bear
On November 14, Simone Biles’ ex-coach announced on Instagram that her daughter, Juliette, had made the most pivotal decision of her life. She shared a carousel of celebratory images and captioned it, “Tonight, she signed to study and compete at Auburn University! She’ll join the @auburndiving @auburnswimdive team next summer/fall!” Cecile Landi reiterated she was proud of her daughter and couldn’t wait to see how her future unfolds.
The coach also couldn’t help but gush over how Juliette had always dreamed of carving her own path. “Since a very young age, growing up in the gym, surrounded by Olympians and NCAA athletes, she’s been dreaming of her own goals. This year, she made those dreams a reality!” The 17-year-old had always envisioned herself as a gymnast and dreamed of contesting in the Summer Games. So, how did she make the switch to diving, you ask?
About three years ago, Juliette took up scuba diving and couldn’t shake it off. Eventually, she realized that she wanted to pursue diving seriously. On July 27, she represented France in synchronized diving with Naïs Gillet in the 3m event. Even though Cecile and Laurent Landi had to focus on the Simone Biles‘ much-awaited comeback to the Summer Games, they took some time out of their busy schedule to support their daughter.
They had to miss practice for the event. But the duo reiterated that the Golden Girls understood. Juliette and Gillet scored 240.03 and had to settle for eighth place. Yet, one of her biggest cheerleaders couldn’t have been more excited.
