Part two of Simone Biles Rising is out now on Netflix, giving viewers an up-close-and-personal look at the gymnastic G.O.A.T.’s journey to the Paris Olympics. But it’s also raising a lot of questions about what Simone Biles is doing now.
The 27-year-old has made it clear that she’s aware of her age, joking in the docuseries that she’s “old for a gymnast” and feels like “a ticking time bomb” for an injury. But, of course, this is Simone Biles, a woman who has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of her sport.
At this point in her career, Simone has racked up 11 Olympic medals — seven golds, two silvers, and two bronzes — which is seriously impressive. But did Simone retire, or is she still planning to compete? Here’s what she’s shared.
Did Simone Biles retire?
No, Simone did not retire, and she seems to be taking a really healthy approach to her future in the sport. “Never say never,” she told Today in August. “The next Olympics is on home turf. So you just never know. I’m just going to relax and see where life takes me.”
She had a similar take during a press conference at the Olympics.
“Never say never,” she said. “Next Olympics are at home. So you just never know. I am getting really old.”
But Simone doesn’t love that people keep asking her about retirement. “You guys really gotta stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics,” she wrote on X in early August. “Let us soak up the moment we’ve worked our whole lives for.”
When someone joked in the comments what her next steps are after winning gold, Simone hilariously responded with “babysitting the medal.”
During her docuseries, Simone is asked if she’s saying goodbye to something she loves. This was her response:
“Mentally, rewiring your brain is so hard. Nobody really truly looks at themselves in the mirror and is like, ‘I need to work on myself and I’m going to work on myself.’ Showing up is the hardest part. If I look back at my career, honestly, the thing I’d be most proud of is staying true to myself and never swaying from that.”
So…no, seems like she’s not retiring (for now).
What is Simone Biles doing now?
Simone has been super busy since the Paris Games. She’s currently on the Gold Across America tour, which ends November 3.
She’s also developing a restaurant for Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, and has released her own line of leotards. She also has new activewear out with Athleta.
Simone is also continuing to school others in gymnastics, recently crushing a standing one-and-a-half when no one else could do it:
But Simone’s personal life also seems to be thriving. In the docuseries, she gave a tour of her new house and just seems to be really, really happy.
