The Dallas Cowboys are making significant moves this offseason as they gear up for the NFL draft later this month. The team recently restructured contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, freeing up $56.6 million in cap space. As the Cowboys look to bolster their roster, star rusher Micah Parsons is also seeking a new contract, entering the 2025 season on his fifth-year option worth just over $22 million. This comes as other edge rushers in the league secure deals exceeding $35 million annually.

In addition to contract restructures, the Cowboys have acquired quarterback Joe Milton from the New England Patriots in exchange for a fifth-round pick in 2025. Milton, a sixth-round pick in 2024, gained experience in New England’s season finale against the Buffalo Bills.

On ESPN’s “First Take,” analysts Stephen A. Smith and Dan Orlovski discussed the Cowboys’ prospects for the upcoming season. Orlovski expressed optimism about the team’s potential, citing the importance of Prescott’s health and the need for an impactful player alongside CeeDee Lamb. He highlighted a promising offensive line and the potential for a strong draft pick to further enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.

However, Smith expressed skepticism, pointing out the numerous “ifs” surrounding the Cowboys’ success, including Prescott’s injury history and the overall performance of the defense and running game. He suggested that the Cowboys may be fighting for third place in the competitive NFC East, where the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders are strong contenders.

As the conversation progressed, the debate highlighted the uncertainty surrounding the Cowboys, particularly regarding new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s effectiveness. As fans await the draft and the next steps for the team, the question remains: can the Cowboys rise above the challenges and expectations set for them this season?
