The first teaser for Verity debuted at CinemaCon 2025, offering Colleen Hoover fans a sizzling sneak peek at the bestselling author’s next big-screen adaptation, which has a killer cast led by Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett. The footage, shown during the Amazon MGM Studios panel on Wednesday night, gave the audience a glimpse of the star-studded production and a better idea of what’s in store. The key takeaway, however, seems to be to expect the unexpected, as the thriller looks to have plenty of twists and turns.
The presentation comes more than a year before the release of Verity, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 15, 2026. The project, for those who haven’t had a chance to read Hoover’s novel yet, centers on a struggling writer named Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who is hired as a ghostwriter for renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway) under mysterious circumstances, but her assignment takes a seriously sinister turn after she discovers chilling autobiographical notes that lead to some deadly family secrets.

‘Verity’ Is Bringing Colleen Hoover’s Twisty Psychological Thriller to the Big Screen
The next Colleen Hoover adaptation is a psychological thriller with a killer cast – and it’s nothing like ‘It Ends With Us.’
According to Screen Rant, Hathaway played a central role in the footage as the teaser opened with her character meeting her future husband, Jeremy (Josh Hartnett), at a bar that looks to be at the beginning of their relationship. It then reportedly cut to Verity at a later time, by which point she had been involved in a car accident that had left her presumably paraplegic. Her life is now very different, and she finds herself dreaming, but it sounds more like a nightmare, as her visions depict a much darker and more sinister version of herself. The fantasies might be foreshadowing as, further down the line, the police get involved, and an officer is seen asking Lowen, “Are you by any chance working on the next Verity book?” She responds, “It’ll be the best one yet.”
‘Verity’ Isn’t the First Colleen Hoover Film Adaptation
Verity comes hot on the heels of It Ends With Us, the movie version of Hoover’s 2016 novel of the same name, directed by Justin Baldoni, who also stars in the film alongside Blake Lively. The production of that adaptation became mired in controversy, but it didn’t hinder its performance at the box office, as it ended up earning more than $346 million worldwide against a reported $25 million budget. Its success might help to draw more attention to the next entry in the cinematic world of Colleen Hoover stories, but Verity differs significantly in terms of its genre, themes, and plot, as witnessed in the blood-splattered set photos for the upcoming film.
Two more of Hoover’s books, Regretting You and Reminders of Him, have also been picked up for film adaptations. Regretting You is scheduled to be released in theaters ahead of Verity, as Paramount Pictures has it on its slate for Oct. 24, 2025. The story focuses on the difficult relationship between a mother and daughter, particularly after a tragic accident that threatens to tear them apart. Reminders of Him is next up, from Universal, on Feb. 13, 2026. It is a tearjerker romance (hence the Valentine’s Day release tie-in) that follows a young woman who yearns for a shot at redemption after being released from prison for a tragic mistake — so those looking for drama will likely enjoy these next few chapters on the big screen.
