Luke Bryan has once again been reminded that the world does, in fact, know he has a tattoo in a place where the sun doesn’t shine—but he wants fans to know it wasn’t his idea. Or so he says.
On Friday, the “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” crooner sat down with his fellow American Idol judges Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie for the March 7 episode of Drew Barrymore‘s CBS talk show.
During their appearance, Barrymore asked the 48-year-old about the hidden ink she heard he has, “Is it true you might have a tattoo for your wife?” she asked with a humored smirk.
Despite the audience’s moans of bewilderment, Bryan made no attempt to deny the tattoo. But he did try to pass the blame onto his wife, Caroline Boyer.
“So my wife started this,” he said. “She started the tattoo thing.”
“Wait,” Underwood, who was off-camera and confused, interjected. “Why are you pointing back here?”
“She did an ‘LB’ on her booty cheek,” Bryan said of his wife. “She just was sure that I would never reciprocate and one day, out on the road, I said ‘Let’s find a parlor,’ and went and pulled the ol’ ham out and got her initials on my booty cheek.”
“C.B.,” he concluded.
Although it came as a surprise to some of his colleagues, this isn’t the first time Bryan has addressed the rather cheeky set of matching tattoos. In 2019, he told Extra that Jason Aldean “leaked” the information about the tats and confirmed that they were real.
“Yes, thank you, Jason,” he said sarcastically before teasing a similar tale about how his wife “started the trend.”
“I actually did it because she said I would never do something, you know, that renegade,” he said at the time, which is pretty consistent with his most recent recollection.
While this special tattoo is reserved only for the eyes of his wife (and maybe the doctor performing his routine colonoscopies), Bryan does have a few others that see the light of day more frequently. They include a Buck Commander logo on his arm (a version he shares with a few friends, including Aldean) and a tattoo he adds to regularly on his wrist.
