Chris Brown recently expressed his admiration for Donald Trump, praising the president over potential plans to overhaul the IRS. On his Instagram Stories, the R&B artist shared, “Anyone else hoping that Trump shuts down the IRS? If he pull that off… PUT THAT MAN ON THE hundred dollar bill.” Trump has not announced plans to shut down the IRS, but major changes are set for the agency once he resumes office later this month. He plans to appoint former Republican congressman Billy Long to lead the IRS. Long, a vocal advocate for abolishing the IRS, has suggested replacing it with a national sales tax, and Trump is also considering cutting the agency’s funding despite its requests for increased support.
This shift in opinion marks a change from Brown’s previous criticism of Trump. During Trump’s first presidential campaign in 2016, the singer publicly expressed discontent. At a concert, Brown said, “Man, this shit is getting crazy. Black people getting assaulted at fuckin’ rallies where you’re supposed to talk at. Trump and all that bullshit.” He also posted a passionate message on social media, calling out the treatment of Black people and critiquing white artists who he believed were appropriating Black culture. Brown’s post read, “FUCK TRUMP AND FUCK THE PIGS! TO SEE THIS EVIL SHIT IS SO WRONG! GOD WILL HAVE HIS REVENGE! TRUST ME!” He emphasized the importance of Black culture, saying, “WITHOUT OUR BLACK CULTURE, ASIAN CULTURE, LATIN CULTURE, MUSLIMS, AND ANY RACE THAT YOU DONT APPROVE OF HELP YOU TO BE WHO THE FUCK YOU ARE.” He also praised the creativity and resilience of marginalized communities, adding, “WE MAKE FASHION, WE MAKE WHITE ARTIST WANNA BE US.”
