Anne Hathaway is upholding her role as Princess of Genovia. As the long-awaited third Princess Diaries movie gets underway, Hathaway, 42, showed off a stunningly regal look in Shanghai that Queen Clarisse would certainly approve of.
At the opening ceremony of Bvlgari Infinity Serpents Exhibition on Wednesday, Jan. 8, the actress — who is an ambassador for the jewelry brand — shined in a metallic gold ball gown and dazzling jewels.
Hathaway’s dress featured a structured bodice and voluminous skirt that barely fell just short of her ankles, showing off her matching metallic pumps.
At the center of the glamorous look was an intricate serpent necklace, the brand’s trademark design.
Hathaway also posed with actress Liu Yifei, who opted for a black strapless gown with a sheer bodice and floral embroidery. Yifei, 37, wore her own serpent necklace, plus a matching bracelet.
Meanwhile, one of her character’s looks from the first Princess Diaries movie seemed to get a red carpet refresh from her friend and former costar Jeremy Strong at the 2025 Golden Globes, and the actress took the opportunity to poke fun at the ensemble.
In a Jan. 6 post, the Oscar-winning actress shared side-by-side images of Strong, 46, wearing a mint green bucket hat at the awards and a snap of herself in the 2001 film wearing a gray hat in the same style.
Fans got a kick out of Hathaway’s joke. “He got that Mia Thermopolis fresh blowout baby,” one user wrote in the comments on Instagram, referencing how Hathaway’s character wore the bucket hat to hide her new hairstyle.
“Put some respect on Mia Thermopolis !!!!,” said another.
A third wrote, “Who wore it better? (Don’t answer, we already know).”
