Simone Biles Returns to Gymnastics Following Uncertain Future as Gold Over America Tour Concludes

After bagging three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, stealing the show at the Gold Over America Tour, hitting 30 cities to celebrate gymnastics and connect with fans, and even winning a Critics’ Choice Documentary Award for Simone Biles: Rising, Simone Biles is back. Back where? Despite all her success off the mat, Simone remains drawn to her first love—gymnastics, the sport she’s been dedicated to since she was just six years old.

Recently, Simone Biles took to Instagram to share that she’s back at the World Champions Centre, the gym owned by her parents. For Biles, it’s more than just training—it’s a place where she can step away from the pressure of fame and simply be another member of the elite team. Along with the update, she posted a motivational poster that read, “The world is yours,” hinting that she’s gearing up for something exciting ahead!

However, there is a huge history behind this center. After Simone Biles won her first world all-around title in 2013, her coach, Aimee Boorman, unexpectedly decided to move on. Rather than following her to another gym, Simone’s mom, Nellie, began to consider a bold idea: building their own gym. Though she initially thought it was “the most stupid option,” the idea stuck. The very next day, she found a four-acre plot near their home, called her husband, Ron, and declared, “We’re going to build a gym.” Within days, she had signed the paperwork, and the World Champions Centre (WCC) was born.

It began with only six gymnasts training in a small, makeshift warehouse, fondly called “The Shed,” while the main facility was being built. By 2016, Simone was training in the new, state-of-the-art gym and went on to win five medals in Rio. But, now, here’s where it gets interesting: why is she training again? Is she eyeing the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics? Her future in gymnastics isn’t exactly clear, but it’s hard not to wonder—will she make a comeback?

Simone Biles just dropped a hint about the 2028 Olympics

Simone Biles, at just 27, is rewriting the rules for gymnastics careers. Amid inquiries about her retirement plans, she is choosing to leave the door ajar for now. Following her triumph in Paris, where she clinched three gold medals, many are pondering whether she will bid farewell to her leotard. But she’s not ready to say goodbye yet. “Never say never,” she told Today, adding, “The next Olympics is on home turf. So you just never know.” Biles knows gymnastics careers are usually short, but she’s pushing her own limits—and on her own terms.

The non-stop questions about her future can be frustrating. “As soon as you finish the Olympics, they’re like, ‘What’s next?’ and I’m like, ‘Damn, I can’t even relish in this moment,” she said. For now, she’s taking it one day at a time, focusing on what feels right. In the meantime, Biles is far from slowing down. She launched her own leotard line, released new activewear with Athleta, and is even opening a restaurant in Houston’s airport. Whether she’s back for the 2028 Olympics or not, one thing’s clear—Simone Biles is still making history, on and off the mat.
