Simone Biles has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards. Now, with the awards show nearing, fans got an update from the U.S. gymnast about the occasion.
The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual event that “honors the greatest and most inspirational sporting triumphs of the year.” According to its website, it aims to recognize and celebrate “the world’s greatest athletes, the inspirational power of sport and its ability to change lives.”
Early in March, Biles was revealed to be one of the nominees for the World Sportswoman of the Year award following her incredible gymnastics comeback capped by a dominant showing in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Biles won three gold medals and one silver in the competition, upping her Olympic medal tally to 11 and further cementing her status as the most decorated gymnast in the world.

Ahead of the April 21 awards ceremony in Madrid, Biles confirmed that she will be attending the show, noting in a statement to the Laureus World Sports Awards that the event is “incredibly special” to her.
“Receiving my first Laureus Award from Nadia Comaneci, in 2017 is still one of my most cherished memories and this event is incredibly special to me,” Biles shared.
“I’m excited to be in Madrid with everyone to celebrate so many amazing achievements as well as the wonderful work that Laureus does. The nominees in every single category are so inspiring to me and I’m extremely proud to stand alongside so many others who competed at the top of their sport in 2024.”
It remains to be seen if Simone Biles will win the honor. She’s up against Spanish soccer star Aitana Bonmatí, Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, Kenyan runner Faith Kipyegon, American hurdler and sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka.
The 28-year-old Biles has already won the Sportswoman of the Year award three times in her career, and she was actually the Comeback of the Year winner in 2024.
