No matter what, the superstar gymnast says, she’ll be at the Games one way or another: “If I’m gonna compete again, I’m not so sure. But I will be at the Olympics—whether it’s on the floor or in the stands,” she said after winning her fourth Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award.
Seven-time Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles isn’t in a hurry to make a decision about competing in what would be her fourth Olympic Games when they head to Los Angeles in 2028.
The gymnastics superstar has enjoyed some downtime and freedom following her historic run at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she won gold in the team, all-around, and vault events, along with a silver in the floor exercise. She also wrapped up her 35-city US arena tour in November.
That’s included a long-delayed honeymoon with husband Jonathan Owens, who plays for the NFL’s Chicago Bears, to South Africa for safari.
“Right now, I’m still focusing on healing physically and mentally because doing the Olympics, it kind of takes a toll on your body,” Biles said after winning her fourth Laureus sport award of her career. “I haven’t got that much time because I’ve sacrificed so much to hang out with my family, my friends, my husband and stuff like that.”
Biles, now 28, is a veteran, aware of the commitment required to compete at the Games and is, for now at least, soaking up her time away from the sport.
“I’m really enjoying my time off before I decide if I want to go back to the gym and compete,” she explained. “A lot of people think it’s just a one-year commitment, but it truly is the four years leading up to the Olympics.”
As for LA? She’ll be there one way or another, she says.
“It is in LA, it’s back in the States, which is so exciting,” Biles said. “But if I’m gonna compete again, I’m not so sure. But I will be at the Olympics—whether it’s on the floor or in the stands.”
