Sensational!
Mic Lowry – ‘P.Y.T. / Honey’ Medley Live (Michael Jackson x Kehlani Cover)
From being the first male vocalist to own 20 Platinum-certified singles to breaking King of Rock N’ Roll Elvis Presley‘s record for most Gold-certified singles (among male singers), Chris Brown is no stranger to seeing his name penciled all up and through the history books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
This month, in addition to celebrating news that he’s tied Beyonce for the overall record of best-selling singles artist among R&B acts, he’s also toasting reports that he’s become the first male vocalist of any genre to own over 40 Platinum-certified singles.
As reported here, the RIAA recently updated Brown’s log to reveal his first Diamond certification as well as a slew of multi-Platinum, Gold, and Platinum plaques.
Among the latter (which recognizes sales of 1 million in the U.S.), Chris welcomed songs ‘Indigo,’ ‘Call Me Every Day,’ and ‘To My Bed’ to his collection – a feat that pushed his cumulative Platinum-certified single count to 41.
In doing so, he becomes the first male singer to cross the threshold of 40+ songs certified as high.
When all acts are considered, only Travis Scott (44), Rihanna (45), Post Malone (45), Taylor Swift (49), Kanye West (51), and Drake (80) can boast having more.
The three Brown tunes listed above helped bring his current cumulative single sales to 114.5 million – the most of any male R&B singer in music history.
When all genres are considered, Brown is listed 10th place on the all-time list behind Drake (244 million), Rihanna (183 million), Eminem (167 million), Kanye West (160.5 million), Taylor Swift (137.5 million), Post Malone (136 million), The Weeknd (126 million), Justin Bieber (121.5 million), Travis Scott (121 million), and Beyonce (114.5 million).
