But despite the tell-tale sparkler, the 28-year-old actress’s publicist has denied that she is engaged to her French journalist boyfriend, Romain Dauriac.

A rep for Johansson confirmed to the MailOnline on Friday that she ‘is not engaged nor close to being engaged,’ as People.com reported.

As for the ring that she has worn a number of times over the past few months, a source told People that the recent gift is ‘simply a piece of jewelry.’

Along with the mysterious bling, the make-up free Vicky Cristina Barcelona star kept it simple on her latest flight with black skinny jeans, cute patterned tennis shoes and a New York Yankees cap.

Her basic black sweater was emblazoned with the word Paris, a fitting homage to her new lover.

Scarlett and Romain – who is the former editor of French magazine Clark, which specialised in underground urban art – are both friends of French tattoo artist Fuzi, who earlier this year tattooed Scarlett with a horse shoe and the message ‘Lucky You’, on her rib cage.

The Lost In Translation actress has quite the collection of tattoos including I Heart New York which she had inked on her right wrist last year. The crafty ink is designed to look like a bracelet, but inside the ‘charm’ is the discreet homage to New York City.

If the couple do tie the knot, it will be the second nuptials for Scarlett, who split from first husband Ryan Reynolds in December 2010 after a two-year marriage. He is now married to Blake Lively and they are currently denying their own set of rumours that they are expecting their first child.

The Golden Globe nominee told UK Elle earlier this year that marriage is not her top priority, however. ‘It’s really not important to me,’ revealed Johansson.

‘The only time I ever think about it is when people ask me, “Would I get married again?”‘

‘I’m not having kids any time soon,’ she added. ‘I’m in a nice relationship, I’m working a lot and, like I said, it’s not important to me.’

When it comes to work, Scarlett has recently started shooting her new movie in Los Angeles, Chef, which sees her donning a brunette Bettie Page wig to play opposite Jon Favreau.

The movie tells the story of Carl Casper – played by Favreau – who loses his chef job and starts up a food truck business in the hope of re-establishing his artistic promise.

Joining Scarlett in the movie will be Robert Downey Jr., Sofia Vergara, and John Leguizamo.
